Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation – KAHRAMAA, was established in July 2000 as a government corporation to regulate and maintain the supply of electricity and water to its customers. In 2002, Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) and KAHRAMAA have signed an agreement for the sale and transfer of the ownership of the stations owned by KAHRAMAA to the company. Since then, the production of electricity and desalination of water have been outsourced and KAHRAMAA has been focusing solely on their transmission, distribution and delivery to all consumers, as well as undertaking demand forecasting activities.

KAHRAMAA celebrates Earth Hour, GCC Water Week and World Water Day

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) celebrated the international environmental days to enhance social advocacy and environmental compliance, through these events KAHRAMAA promoted the need to reduce and reuse water, as well as, decreasing the pollution resulted from wastewater.

 

KAHRAMAA aims to achieve its mission of “Providing High Quality and Sustainable Electricity and Water for Better Living in Qatar”.

KAHRAMAA celebrates 5th Tarsheed Anniversary

​Under the generous patronage of His Highness the Emir of the Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) organized today the fifth anniversary of its ongoing National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) at its iconic KAHRAMAA Awareness Park (KAP) with the slogan “one promise, one journey ’’.
 
The grand and glittering event was graced with the presence of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, the Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada, KAHRAMAA’s president, HE Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al- Kuwari, ministers, dignitaries, diplomats, high level officials from Government and private sectors and sponsors, Media professionals, senior functionaries of KAHRAMAA, Environment- champions, school children, stakeholders’ representatives and others.
 
With the annual Tarsheed celebration, KAHRAMAA announced the official opening of its KAHRAMAA Awareness Park (KAP) and announced future strategies as well for Tarsheed program. During the event, a film regarding the first phase (2012- 2017) of the National Program for the Conservation and Energy Efficiency was screened, highlighting its overall achievements and challenges. The Tarsheed succeeded in reducing the per capita consumption of Electricity and Water in Qatar by 18% and 20% respectively until December 2016.
 
During the event, KAHRAMAA also announced the commencement of the second phase (2017- 2022) of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) and its new road map to achieve the objectives set out by Qatar National Vision (2030) and extended National Development Strategy. During these years, Tarsheed will strive to reduce the per capita consumption of electricity and water by 8% and 15% respectively.
 
The Program which was initiated as a National campaign for Efficient Use of Water and Electricity was launched for five years in 2012 on earth day which falls every year on April 22. Tarsheed, through its multi- folded strategies and programmes, aims at reaching all segments of the society to create awareness for conserving the precious resources. It motivates the whole society to work together, contributing to the envisaged goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030. 
 
In order to achieve the target set out by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), KAHRAMAA has signed 56 MoUs in various sectors to make Tarsheed a habit for everyone. The basic purpose of these signed MoUs with various kinds of organizations is to implement Tarsheed’s objectives and help inculcating and extending conservation culture in Qatar to preserve country’s vital resources and reduce carbon emissions for the sake of environment.
 
Tarsheed also helps in reducing pressure during peak months by its saving techniques and methodologies. It looks forward to integrate the whole Qatar community for their worth participation as broadly as possible. KAHRAMAA also appeals to all Qatar’s residents to take an active role in the program, calling for cooperation and adherence to the country’s conservation laws and regulations.
